Multiplier event for project VIE at the University of the Aegean 17/1/2023

Project VIE develops digital collaboration tools for hybrid learning. Through these tools, the project aims to support the flexibility necessary in learning design that has emerged in the COVID-19 pandemic. More specifically, the tools aim to support the smooth transition of learning delivery from in-class to virtual models and back, as well as hybrid learning scenarios, without disruption.

The digital tools developed in the project complement existing educational content management services, which typically support content sharing, exams (both multiple choice and open text), announcements, and the submission of student projects. The VIE tools provide collaboration capabilities that are typically not available in traditional learning management systems.

On January 17, 2023 a multiplier event took place at the Department of Product and Services Design of the University of the Aegean, which is located on the island of Syros in the Cyclades, Greece. A total of 16 individuals attended the event, which had a duration of 3 hours. Participants received a presentation of VIE project objectives, activities, and outcomes, which was followed by a demonstration of the VIE digital learning services.

Subsequently, participants were divided in teams and used the VIE digital learning tools for collaboration on a project related to their curricula. Students designed interventions for facilitating the smooth transition of freshman students to the university environment.

Teams performed research on the challenge, documenting through text and images the issues faced by first year students. They analysed diverse potential solutions and selected one of those for further elaboration.

Teams suggested solutions for promoting the socialization of first year students, such as organizing a treasure hunt or participating in an escape room.
