A summer school was hosted by the Creative Technologies Learning Lab research team of the University of Thessaly on July 3 – 5, 2024. The summer school took place at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Thessaly in Volos. The summer school aimed to train instructors in the Creative Industries on the application of design thinking for innovation. The event was attended by 10 educators from Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria.
Participants were familiarised with design thinking, a human centered design process that helps introduce solutions to difficult modern challenges, both in entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship through a better understanding of user needs following a process of empathy and discovery. They further engaged throughout the 3 days in hands-on workshops for generating innovative ideas through design thinking processes based on problem discovery, empathy, problem re-definition, ideation, evaluation of ideas, prototyping, and testing.
The event focused on building the capacity of Western Balkans educators to introduce activities on innovation in the classroom. Educators will take the new knowledge to their organisations, generating multiplier effects by training colleagues, disseminating to other universities in their regions, and updating courses related to the Creative Industries.
