ReachOut piloting activities with the Saint Joseph primary school 11/11/2025

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DECE), and specifically the Creative Technologies Learning Lab (CTLL) research group, organised experiential learning activities for prevention, response, and recovery from natural disasters for students. The activities took place on November 11, 2025. 27 students of the 5th grade of Saint Joseph Primary School participated, accompanied by teachers.

The actions were carried out in the framework of the Erasmus+ research project ReachOut: Training Teachers to Become Trauma-sensitive Schools. The project develops learning resources to promote awareness, preparation, and resilience in response to natural disasters, targeting students aged 12 years and under. The actions are designed to be integrated into various curriculum subjects, including science, humanities, art, sports, and others.

Students participated in workshops both outdoors and indoors that promote collaboration, coordination, creativity, critical thinking, and empathy. Examples include:

  • Exercises for the physical education class.
  • serving works of art depicting natural disasters.
  • Discussing the Earth’s mantle and its role in contributing to natural disasters.
  • And actions to protect against the natural disasters that occur most frequently in Greece.

The ReachOut research project is implemented from 2023 to 2026 by educational organisations from Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece.
