When he receives a damaged Baroque armchair in his workshop, he doesn't panic. His brain immediately switches to a mode that universities call Computational Thinking. Decomposition: Marco doesn't repair the “armchair.” He repairs the leg, replaces the springs, cleans the upholstery, and replenishes the polish. He sees the project as a collection of small tasks. Pattern Recognition: He looks at the wood grain and knows: “This is oak, it will react to this varnish the same way as the dresser from a month ago.” Experience is his database. The Story: Grandpa Jacques is planning a trip from Lyon to Vienna. He’s not a fan of complicated apps, but his mind works like a Swiss watch. How does he do it? Decomposition(Division): Jacques doesn’t look at the route as a whole. He breaks it down into stages: getting to the station, changing trains in Munich, and checking into the hotel.Abstraction (the heart of the matter): When he looks at the train map, he ignores the colors of forests or rivers. He focuses on only one thing: the transfer time. The Creative Technologies Learning Lab research team organised on January 27, 2026 a multiplier event for Erasmus+ project LET’s MIMIC which introduces biomimicry in learning. Biomimicry is an innovative design processs where solutions are inspired by the wisdom of natural models and processes. Project LET’s MIMIC has develop a digital learning platform for biomimicry and rich educational resources. During the event, approximately 30 students used the LET’s MIMIC digital learning platform to design solutions for improving quality of life in their hometown of Volos, particicularly related to climate change consequences, including natural disasters, such as the recently experienced floods and wildfires. Students designed solutions for water management, air pollution, adding greenery in the city, and reducing the use of cars. See more
